2024 Vancouver Legal Symposium

PortaLaw’s James Hsu will be giving one of three keynote sessions at this year’s Vancouver Legal Symposium. He will participate in panel discussions and a legal clinic as part of the event, which is hosted annually by CPHR British Columbia & Yukon. The event is geared toward human resources professionals and will provide an in-depth day of professional development on various aspects of workplace law.

Approaches to Problem-Solving: Adding a Pinch of Practicality

Often, the law only provides part of the answer when solving legal issues in the workplace. For example, when there is more than one legal path forward, when practical realities (especially time and cost) affect decision-making, or when straight-forward scenarios become complicated because the underlying dynamics are messy.

This session will discuss legal, practical (and human) considerations employers should include in their decision-making process when navigating workplace issues, with a specific focus on starting, amending, and terminating the employment relationship.
